On September 5, Bharat Ratna Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan’s birthday is also celebrated. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the first Vice President and second President of independent India. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a scholar of religion and philosophy. He also worked as a professor in various colleges such as Madras Presidency College, University of Mysore, University of Calcutta, Oxford University and University of Chicago.
Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan contributed to the creation of contemporary Hindu identity. His reinterpretation of understanding of Hinduism earned him a reputation as a bridge between India and the West.
Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was one of the founders of Helpage India, a social organization for the elderly in India.
On this day, students organize special programs in schools and colleges to honor their teachers.
